Outcome

Students will focus on their ability to articulate the goals, purposes, and processes behind a writing project, understanding why they are making certain rhetorical choices.

Where It’s Practiced

• Literacy Narrative – Students explain the rhetorical purpose behind remediating their narrative into a new genre and medium.
• Observation and Value Analysis – Students analyze how other writers’ texts achieve specific purposes within their communities.
• Making Change – Students collaboratively develop a shared writing purpose and reflect on the strategies used to reach their audience.
• Overview Reflection – Students write a holistic reflection that connects their writing processes and goals across multiple projects.

What It Looks Like

Students explain their writing decisions, describe the strategies they used to achieve a specific purpose, and reflect on how their process helped them meet the needs of an audience or rhetorical situation.

Why It Matters

Understanding writing goals helps students become more intentional and reflective writers, able to make purposeful choices and communicate effectively across different contexts and assignments.
